> About the pixiebob

The beautiful Pixiebob bears a striking resemblance to the North American wild Bobcat, but despite its supposedly wild heritage it is kind, affectionate and very dog like in its characteristics.

Carol Brewer was the original person who started a breeding programme from barn cats she found on the mountainside of Mount Baker.  The barn cats had such a remarkable resemblance to the American Bobcats she referrers to them as ‘Legend Cats’.

Although many have thought that the Pixiebob is in some way related to the American Bobcat, tests and research have shown that there is no relation between the two.

The Pixiebob has been branded very dog like because it will follow and retrieve like a dog would.  The Pixiebob also picks a favorite out of the family and  befriends them for life, however, usually not the person that feeds them all house of the day and cleans out the dirty cat litter trays (typical!).

Pixiebobs have a natural bobbed tail that should be no longer than to the hock on the back leg. The Pixiebob’s tail is natural and under no circumstances should a tail be docked, if a docked tail is found at TICA shows there is a high chance of being disqualified.

Pixiebobs are the only breed that are accepted with a polydactyl feet which means manu-toed. Although other breeds can be born with this it is usually recognised as a fault unlike with the Pixiebobs.
